Support Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra
Music has been and still is a vital part of Oak Ridge and the surrounding area. Currently, the Oak Ridge and surrounding schools maintain high standards in all of the performing arts departments including band, orchestra, and chorus. These departments, though they hold performances several times a year, never perform together as a unified symphony orchestra. Thus it was proposed that an Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra (ORYSO) be established to provide a venue for young musicians from the Oak Ridge and surrounding communities to play together.
Now, after countless hours of hard work from Seaira Stephenson (ORYSO Volunteer Executive Director), Rachel Grubb (ORYSO Music Director), Roddy Lee (ORYSO Student Director), dedicated students, parents, and the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association (ORCMA) board members, the Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra performed our gala concert on April 21st, 2009 at 7pm in the Oak Ridge High School Auditorium.
Finance is one of the most important aspects of initiating the program, and there is no doubt that finance of the program and issues related to it are a major concern. Costs include venues for practice and performance, sheet music, and the conductor’s honorarium. As the ORYSO looks forward to its starting year, we ask patrons of the arts, like you, to show your support for this new organization by becoming a financial supporter of the ORYSO. We hope to keep ticket prices low to encourage those who enjoy music to attend concerts, and thus ticket sales will only cover a portion of the ORYSO’s operating budget. In order to provide high quality music and a unique learning environment for students, we ask for your support.
